The Rise of Crochet during lockdown

These days we are at home because of the Covid-19 lockdown.

The rise of crochet during lockdown.

As the stay at home time increased, so did our need for creativity at home and many women, girls and guys have taken to this craft in Nigeria and oversea. Its interesting to note that especially in Nigeria there has been a rise of crochet artist. People have been creating communities online for a long time but the stay at home has increased our interaction online and increase our reach. Now many people crochet as a business, or for personal use and share on the different social media platforms. Even teaching of the craft has gone online and we have online classes.

Quote of the day

Crochet

Crochet is the looping of a string of yarn to make a fabric using a hook. This craft has been mistaken for many years in Nigeria as knitting. But they are not the same. And many people are becoming aware about it. Crocheting is becoming more popular than knitting in Nigeria and the world. This could be because of its simple tools – a hook and yarn. With crochet, there’s no machine made. It’s all handmade. It can be carried along with you anywhere you may be going. And its also very easy to learn. It can be used in making baby clothing’s as well as adults. For both men and women. It can also be used for making decorative pieces for the home such as dollies, place mats, sofa covers, blankets and so on. It can also be used to make designer handbags and fun DIY projects.

Besides clothing’s, crochet can also be used to make temporary and permanent structures, lightening and yarn bombing.

Many crocheters also crochet as a means of relaxation. Somehow, the counting of stitches can take you to another zone. And that feeling of accomplishment when you see that you have finished a project even if that’s the only thing you achieve that day.

I believe that with all that is going on in the world, this is just the beginning of the rise of crochet. Crochet has come to stay. What do you think. Let me know your view in the comments.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day.
